Adrian is a punk to begin with, there is no doubt whatsoever about that. Constantly caught between wanting to learn from the beauty in others and being absolutely unwilling to let someone tell him how to play his music, Adrian bops through the life of an amateur musician with maximum amor.
The story begins with a young Adrian, armed with 4 and ⅓ years of guitar lessons he quits his highschool jazz band. He could no longer be bothered to even pretend he had learned the songs. A new muse had captured his heart and that hottie’s name was metal. Over the next decade he built a concurrent friendship and heavy metal duo, the reverberations of which still echo through his bones. This experience, which was his first exposure to improvisation, bent his life in a hairpin left defining how he would approach music and life, pushing him to listen intently and speak frankly.
But dear reader the story complicates. the enemy, self doubt, lurked in the background. Though distant past Adrian dreamed of playing piano his brain assured him he was neither smart enough, nor good enough to do so. But he was destined to prove himself wrong. While working as a bike messenger in downtown Minneapolis he was surprised to find that junky upright pianos had been painted and left out on various street corners by a non-profit trying to draw people to the downtown area. These machines of lamentable functionality taught Adrian an important lesson, playing piano is pushing buttons, just don't be tacky about it.
This discovery and the joy that it brought sparked a flurry of exploration. He struck out in search of new and cool, he helped a songwriter put flesh on the bones of her songs, accompanied the raddest puppet show on the planet, composed and debuted a symphonic poem, and performed as part of a 26hr continuous drone festival. Having reached the pinnacle of music, specifically having a good time and being respected by those you respect, Adrian left Minneapolis for Boston, on a mission to learn to tune pianos. This move fortuitously landed him in the warm orbit of Sun Salon where he is quite happy.
P.s. Adrian did in fact learn to tune pianos, he actually got quite good at it. So if you or someone you know needs a piano tuned let him know!
