Mawunyo Kobla (M.K.) Titiati is a dynamic drummer, percussionist, scholar, and teacher whose artistry bridges tradition and innovation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music with Information Studies from the University of Ghana and a Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology from Tufts University. Born in Adidome in Ghana’s Volta Region and raised in Tema, M.K. now calls Boston, Massachusetts home. With over two decades of professional experience, M.K. has cultivated a reputation as a versatile performer equally fluent on the drum set, traditional Ghanaian instruments, marching band percussion, and electronic drum programming. His leadership in ensembles and bands reflects not only technical mastery but also a deep commitment to fostering collaboration, respect, and creativity. Currently, M.K. serves as Music Director of Borga’s Band, an Afrocentric ensemble based in Boston, and as drummer for the rising reggae group Thr3Tw2One1. His career includes performances with celebrated artists and ensembles such as Kofi Kinaata, Joe Mettle, Diana Hamilton, Akwaboah, Fameye, Uche Agu, Samuel Nalangira, Gye Nyame Kete, and many more. He has graced stages at festivals including the Ossipee Valley Music Festival (Maine) and GhanaFestival (Worcester, MA), and has been featured in the Revere Journal for his demonstration of Ghanaian music during the city’s 2022 Juneteenth celebrations. M.K.’s artistry has also been recognized in academic and ceremonial contexts, performing at events honoring Tufts University’s former president Dr. Anthony Monaco and current president Dr. Sunil Kumar. Beyond these achievements, he is a core member of Sun Salon, a Boston-based free jazz collective, where his improvisational voice continues to expand the boundaries of rhythm and sound. Through his dedication to drumming as both craft and cultural expression, M.K.
